Gypsum Board Production Line: A Comprehensive Overview
The gypsum board production line is a highly efficient system designed to manufacture drywall panels used in construction. This process involves several stages, from raw material preparation to final packaging, ensuring consistent quality and durability. Below is a detailed breakdown of the production process.
Raw Material Preparation
The primary raw material for gypsum boards is natural or synthetic gypsum (phosphogypsum or flue gas desulfurization gypsum). The gypsum rock is crushed into fine powder and then calcined in a rotary kiln or kettle to remove excess water, converting it into stucco (hemihydrate gypsum). Additives such as starch, agents, and accelerators are mixed to enhance board strength, fire resistance, and workability.
Slurry Mixing and Forming
The calcined gypsum powder is blended with water and additives to form a slurry. This mixture is continuously fed between two layers of high-quality paper or fiberglass matting on a forming station. The upper and lower liners ensure smooth surfaces while providing structural reinforcement. The slurry spreads evenly across the moving belt, creating a continuous wet board before entering the setting zone.

Setting and Drying
Once formed, the wet board passes through a setting conveyor where it solidifies into its final shape. The chemical reaction between stucco and water reforms dihydrate gypsum crystals, hardening the core. After setting, the boards are cut to desired lengths using automated saws before entering drying kilns. Large-scale dryers remove residual moisture under controlled temperatures (typically 150–250°C), ensuring dimensional stability and preventing warping.

Finishing and Packaging
After drying, boards undergo edge trimming and surface inspection for defects. Some lines include additional processes like laminating foil or applying special coatings for moisture-resistant or fire-rated variants. Finally, finished boards are stacked automatically, wrapped in protective film, and labeled for shipment.
Key Advantages of Modern Gypsum Board Lines
– Automation: Advanced PLC systems optimize production speed (up to 100 meters/minute) while minimizing waste.
– Eco-Friendly: Synthetic gypsum recycling reduces landfill dependency; energy-efficient dryers lower carbon footprints.
– Versatility: Lines can produce varying thicknesses (6–25 mm) tailored for ceilings, partitions, or specialty applications.
By integrating precision engineering with sustainable practices, modern gypsum board production lines deliver high-performance
