Recovering Gold from Rock Crusher PC Boards

Rock crusher PC boards often contain traces of gold, primarily in the form of plating or connectors. Extracting this gold requires a systematic approach to ensure both safety and efficiency. The process involves several steps, including dismantling, chemical treatment, and refining.

Step 1: Dismantling and Sorting
Before any chemical processing, the PC boards must be carefully dismantled. Remove any non-metallic components, as they do not contain gold. Focus on connectors, pins, and areas with visible gold plating. Sorting these components separately improves the efficiency of subsequent steps.

Step 2: Stripping Gold with Acid Solutions
The most common method for gold recovery involves using acid solutions. A mixture of hydrochloric acid (HCl) and hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂), known as the “aqua regia” method, is often employed. The collected gold sludge still contains impurities. To purify it, melt the gold using a crucible and a high-temperature torch. Add borax to remove remaining contaminants. The result should be a small but valuable lump of pure gold.
