2. Grinding:
Crushed ore is then fed into ball mills or SAG mills for fine grinding. Water is added during grinding to form a slurry, facilitating easier separation in downstream processes.

3. Magnetic Separation:
The slurry undergoes low-intensity magnetic separation (LIMS) to recover magnetite particles. High-intensity magnetic separators (HIMS) may be used if finer liberation is required or if hematite is present as an impurity. The magnetic concentrate is separated from non-magnetic tailings, which are discarded or further processed for other minerals.
4. Dewatering:
The magnetite concentrate contains significant moisture and must be dewatered for storage or transportation. Thickeners are used initially to increase solids concentration, followed by filtration using vacuum filters or pressure filters to produce a dry cake with minimal moisture content (~8-10%).
5. Tailings Management:
Non-magnetic tailings are pumped to tailings storage facilities (TSFs) for safe disposal or reprocessing if economically viable. Water recovery systems may be implemented to recycle process water back into the plant, reducing freshwater consumption and environmental impact.
